Gaming Laptops Cont.

Another factor that effects game play is the screen size / resolution. Your choice in an LCD screen is very important when gaming on a laptop, especially the ratio of width to height, which will max out your video cards capabilities. Consider the laptop screen size, standard vs. widescreen resolutions, and the actual resolutions associated with gaming.

Laptop Dimensions

The size in which laptops are being produced today have to do with the display associated with it. This has been done to enhance the screen size and resolution to accommodate gamers graphic card capabilities. Even though you may find some screen sizes on certain gaming laptop a better choice than others, look at other characteristics, because I doubt you want to sacrifice features such as size, weight, or thermal production for just a better display. There are many niche vendors that have quality displays, without sacrificing other valuable specifications.

Bigger is always better!

Larger gaming laptop produced today are candidates for desktop replacements, which are usually quite bigger than the typical laptop. This is very true for gaming laptops as they usually are fit with 17'' – 18'' inch screens. Though there are many lesser quality gaming associated laptops that use 13'' – 16'' screens for people who prefer smaller setups. So choose wisely if you want a large screen, as this will effect your perception of game play.

Screen Resolution

To understand the actual resolution of an LCD screen you must figure the amount of pixels being stretched horizontally and vertically across it. This can be figured by the aspect ratio. This is calculated by dividing the screen width by the height. The most common ratios used on todays computer displays include 4 : 3 and 16 : 9. These ratios may sound somewhat confusing, so to put it in simpler terms, the bigger the screen, the bigger the supported resolution. What some people don't know, is if you choose a cheaper screen with a ratio of 4 : 3 when purchasing a laptop, you may be limited to the actual amount and quality of resolutions. What you can do to fully understand the differences between value vs. quality, is by making a visit to your local laptop dealer to get a hands on look to figure out your preference of resolution and size. This is very beneficial if you want your purchase to be worthy of long term performance. For gaming, I recommend 1920 x 1200 ( 16 : 10) and 1680 x 1050 (16 : 10) resolutions, featured on 17'' inch and higher laptop displays. This also means there are more megapixels to be viewed across the screen which result in higher quality images.

Standard / Widescreen Displays

The way you view your display have two different perspectives. Standard and Widescreen are what you have to choose from. Most manufactures today are building there laptops with the widescreen format, as displays today are becoming bigger and bigger. So you will most likely be stuck with a larger widescreen resolution since you are shopping for a gaming laptop. This is actually good because you will enjoy playing games much, much more. Trust me. Though consider a the standard format because of game limitation below.

Note: Not all games on the market will support widescreen format, though most modern games due. Realize this incase you do face this option.

So in summary, here is what you should consider.
